We are absolutely delighted to let everyone know that we have been given a grant of £20k by Essex County Council's Community Initiative Fund towards our page woods project.
Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Planning and the Environment Cllr Roger Hirst, said: “The Community Initiatives Fund is an excellent example of how Essex County Council is supporting communities to help themselves.
“By increasing the opportunities for local residents, community groups and volunteers individually to shape their local facilities and undertake new ventures, we will see them make Essex an even better place to live and work than it is today.”
We are all very excited about the project and can't wait to get it underway. We have received lots of encouraging comments about our innovative business planning. Many thanks to all who have helped this project gather so near to completion.
To actually purchase the woods we only need a further £3k then we just need funds to provide items to put our business plans into action (see website for business plan etc.). The fact that the woods now has Asset of Community Value status means that we have until May 2015 to complete but we would like to get the whole thing settled by April.
Now that we are confident about our funding we are consulting with solicitors about the all important Trust Deed to ensure that this little piece of woodland remains in community ownership and open to the public in perpetuity.
