This proposal seems to focus on the possible benefits to wildlife and the economy, both of which are important, but it does not seem to acknowledge the quality of life for residents. This scheme might work in some districts but what happens in districts/boroughs where alternative land to be used as compensatory land is not available? The article alludes to the fact that it might be possible to select a compensatory site miles away from the site being built on, in such instances the newly-developed local area and residents lose out - I could see the South East losing out on even more green land if this proposal was implemented in it's current form.
