Having just spoken to a member of Basildon Planning Office staff I was told that no one from Nottingham or Meridian had been recognised by Basildon staff. However, at least one other developer was recognised who might have been attending due to other interests in the area.......now where could that be?

Nottingham Council has put forward 10 "very special reasons" as Grounds for Appeal against Basildon Council's refusal to build on our greenbelt In brief these are: 1. The site will make an important contribution to the Council's 5 year housing supply etc. 2. The site is well contained by built development and landscape features. The perception of loss of openness will be limited 3. The proposals are high quality design, integrating well with BG&NB 4. The scheme will make an important contribution to the employment needs of the Thames Gateway 5. The provision of a doctor's surgery where there is currently no provision 6. A Village Centre where there is currently a lack of community facilities 7. The provision of a primary school 8. The potential catalyst for the regeneration of the plotlands 9. Significant new areas of public open space 10. The maintenance and enhancement of the ecological wealth and diversity of the area The Residents Association will be responding by the deadline of 22nd November 2013. If you believe that you have any contradictory comments to make that we could add to the response then please email secretary@bowersgifford.info Please note that the potential date for the Appeal hearing is likely to be 24th February 2014

Stephen Metcalfe came to see me yesterday morning. I must admit to being a bit apprehensive. Had I done or said anything wrong? Was it bad news - hence the reason for visiting me in my own home rather than letting me drive home, from another location, in a distressed state? However, Stephen came in full of energy; the knight in shining armour; battle flag flying. His staff are watching the Planning Inspectorate (PI) website daily to see what form the Objection will take when it comes in (as the Residents Association are also doing!) and he is writing to the PI to register his interest i.e. so that he can become involved. I updated him on our plans i.e. the 3 prong attack - (Basildon Council, Parish Council and Residents Association) all putting in Objections to the Appeal; now 4 prong with Stephen joining the battle formation. As yet the Appeal has not been registered so it is very unlikely that it went in before the Planning Meeting as per the statement Nottingham gave to the Echo. Why did Nottingham say that the Appeal had already gone in if it had not? Keep watching the forum and we will keep you up to date

Nottingham Council's Appeal is not yet on the Planning Inspectorate's website. it usually takes 1-2 weeks for Appeals to be validated and logged by the inspectorate. However, this does show that the Appeal has only recently been made. We will look at the website daily to see when the Appeal is uploaded. We cannot start to formulate an objection until we know what form the Appeal has taken. As soon as the Appeal is available to view then we will put together a formal Objection.

I have just heard, via the Echo which has been in contact with Nottingham Council for comment that, "Nottingham nor its representatives attended Tuesday's Development Control and Traffic Management Committee because they had already put in an Appeal." Apparently the Appeal has been submitted by Aberdeen Asset Management the Nottingham Council Pension Fund managers. Strange because according to the land registry it is Nottingham Council which owns Little Chalvedon Hall Farm - no mention of the pension fund. The appeal is apparently on the basis that the committee should have met to make a decision before 15th June. In my personal opinion it would not have been possible for Basildon Council to make a decision before that date because not all the consultees had responded. In addition, the Residents Association made detailed responses to the various planning documents highlighting a number of queries, perceived weaknesses and flaws. The Planning Department sent copies of our responses to Meridian Strategic Development but we have never received a response to tell us that any of our points were wrong. In any case, I feel that it is totally discourteous that neither Nottingham Council or its representatives attended Tuesday's meeting to hear the views of local people and their elected councillors. Would Nottingham Council treat its own electorate in the same way? Rose

We were all appalled that Nottingham representatives were not at the Towngate Theatre last night to hear what local people, the Basildon Planning Department and the Development Control & Traffic Management Committee had to say about their plans to build on our green belt. I don't think they needed to hear what the residents had to say -we told them at the "consultation" and also in our various responses to their flawed plans. However, the reporters thought that they saw a couple of the developer's staff sitting at the back of the theatre writing notes. Was it or wasn't it Nottingham in hiding?

Glebelands is the slim bit of green land left between South Benfleet and the A130. Opposite Bowers Gifford and North Benfleet. Fox, Land & Property, a developer from Cheshire, applied to build 165 dwellings. The application was turned down by Castle Point Council. The Council's decision was overruled by the Planning Inspectorate . Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State, overruled the Planning Inspectorate's decision. ;D We were all very happy as this is the only bit of wild life corridor left on the South Benfleet Side of the A130. However, now Fox, Land and Property is taking the Secretary of State to the High Court with regard to his decision. The same developer has taken the Secretary of State before, regarding a development in Cheshire and won Good Luck to Eric Pickles. Let's hope that he fights this greedy northern developer off.

The petition has to be handed in to Basildon Council by the extended deadline of 2nd September. This is to ensure that the updated figure goes into the report being prepared by officers . The report will help the council committee come to a decision on Little Chalvedon Hall Farm. If you still have any copies with names on please would you leave them at 31A Westlake Ave by Monday morning. Presumably we can still add to the petition but the full total will not be quoted in the report. The petition currently stands at 5100+ ;D and we think that this is the largest petition ever to be submitted to Basildon Council The e-petition stands at 600+ but will carry little weight because addresses are incomplete and there are no signatures . However, we do know that Basildon Council are reading our comments - so please sign the e-petition and leave a comment , even if you have already signed the paper one, as this will now be treated as a separate document.

Please note that the next meeting of the Residents Association will be at the Benbow Club in Pound Lane, Bowers Gifford at the earlier time of 7.00 pm . There will be no guest speakers at this meeting . This meeting will be for residents only so that we can plan our strategy for the forthcoming Development Control & Traffic Management Committee where a decision will be made on Nottingham/Meridian's application to build a monstrous development on Little Chalvedon Hall Farm. We suspect that the decision date will be the week after this meeting but we do not know this for sure . We need residents to speak at the decision meeting (maximum time allowed per speaker is 3 minutes). If you would like to speak then please let me know and I will ensure that you are registered. Best wishes Rose

Don't forget our meetings in Pitsea at the Great Chalvedon Hall Pub, Rectory Road 7.30 pm on 27th and 29th August. Many thanks to Laura, the landlady at the Great Chalvedon Hall, for allowing us to use her function room Note: The room is quite small but will accommodate 40+ people. There is another meeting at the Benbow Club, Pound Lane, Bowers Gifford on 11th September at 7.00 pm if Pitsea folk cannot get to the Great Chalvedon Hall pub for the August meetings.
