How fast is your broadband speed? The majority of broadband comnnections in the Parish are slow and need improvement. You can lobby Essex County Council for improvement by clicking the link below. www.superfastessex.orgHowever, part of your problem may be remedied by just re-siting your computer equipment. I had an consultant come round to my house who moved the wanadoo box from behind the wide screen TV and made a few other changes and we have no major problems now ;D

We have two meetings planned in Pitsea. As we have been walking around, knocking on doors, there have been a lot of people who are totally unaware of the potential potential development on Little Chalvedon Hall Farm which is closer to some Pitsea residents than some Bowers Gifford & North Benfleet residents. Laura, from the Great Chalvedon Hall public house, has kindly offered her meeting room free of charge. These meetings will be on 27th and 29th August at 7.30 pm. although people from BG&NB are welcome to attend space is limited and we would prefer to keep this venue just for Pitsea residents. There will be a meeting for BG&NB residents on 11th September at the Benbow, Pound Lane, Bowers Gifford. This will be at the earlier time of 7.00 pm Please note that there will be no guest speakers at these meetings. At the meetings we wish to update residents of the planning application to date and the work we have done in trying to defeat it. We believe that this may be the last opportunity for a public meeting before a decision is made on Nottingham Council's application to build on our greenbelt

Emma, our community police officer, has reported for June that there had been five burglaries and four incidents of criminal damage in the Pitsea East Ward but no incidents of this nature had been reported in Bowers Gifford or North Benfleet . BG&NB is a very low crime area . However there had been an incident of theft from a lorry parked at the Gun Public House and the theft of Ford car parts from a vehicle in Pound Lane . There have been incidents of house burglary in the Pitsea East Ward in recent months . The public are advised to double lock and lift the handle if they had a UPVC door fitted to keep the lock secure. It may be a requirement of the insurance policy to double lock and if this has not been done and the property is broken into then the insurance company may not pay out .

Basildon Council are counting the paper petition (4750) and the on-line petition (603) separately - so we might as well sign both. ;D We will still try to get 5000 signatures on the paper petition which carries more weight. However, it is not just a case of collecting signatures it has now become an awareness campaign as so few people in Pitsea are aware of what is happening on their doors step. When we met the developer he said that he would have liked to have had an exit into Tyefields as well as Pound Lane but could not do so because of the green belt/space issue. However, if Basildon Council turns down this proposed planning application and the developer successfully appeals to the Secretry of State's Planning Inspectorate then what's the betting that the Tyefields exit gets the go ahead too?

Going around with the petition is not just getting signatures but also raising awareness of what Nottingham Council is intending to build between Bowers Gifford and Pitsea. I'm currently dropping the leaflets, which Carole and Gerry kindly donated, around Tyefields. So many people there know nothing about the proposed development on Little Chalvedon Hall Farm. Recent coverage in the Recorder has provided a little bit of awareness but most people are shocked by the size and location of the development. Currently we have 4750 names on the paper petition and 600 on the e-petition - that's a massive total of 5350. However, so many more people would sign the petition or, better still, write letters of objection if they knew about the proposed development. If you live in Pitsea and can take a copy of the petition to get more signatures then please contact me chair@bowersgifford.info or phone 0780 804 1825

A decision will not now be made on the Nottingham Council/Meridian application to build on Little Chalvedon Hall Farm until at least September. Basildon Council has raised several queries and have received some additional information from Meridian's team. This will obviously need to be examined in some detail. As you are aware the Residents Association made detailed responses to Meridian's planning reports. These were also forwarded to Meridian and we would expect to see their comments before the Development Control and Traffic Management Committee meet to discuss the application. Although we are all on edge, awaiting the decision, we would prefer Basildon Council to check all information received in detail even if it means delaying the envisaged decision date. Although a response had not been received by the Council from Highways when we reviewed the responses to the consultation last week we have now been informed that this has been received. However, the Residents Association is still awaiting a response to its letter to Highways. The letter was sent over a month ago and has not been acknowledged.

Dear All If you sign the e-petition please ensure that you leave your postcode If you have signed the on-line petition and not left your postcode then please re-sign it - we can easily cross off duplications. This is very important because on Tuesday we handed in our paper petition with 4544 signatures and a print out of our on-line petition with 567 signatures. Total 5111. Regrettably, some people signing the on-line petition have not left their post codes and just leaving the postal town or county is not sufficient for a petition against planning. Basildon Council may be able to get addresses for local people from the electoral roll but it will be time consuming. However, some signatures where we cannot verify the addresses will be lost. We are still adding to the petition and since handing it in we have received at least another 100+ signatures on the paper petition and another 30 on the on-line petition. Hopefully this will compensate for the loss of others and we will still have achieved our 5000 target.

The Residents Association send out an email newsletter about once per month plus any urgent updates if needed. If you are not already on the database and would like to receive a copy please send your email address to secretary@bowersgifford.info There are a few email addresses which keep bouncing back each month. If you have already given us your email address and you are not receiving email updates from us then you are probably one of these and we have an error in the address we are using. Please re-send your email address to secretary@bowersgifford.info

Point taken, Mike. This was raised with the Planning Office. We need to ensure the wording is correct when we send it in.
FYI - apparently the Planning Office do phone people on the petition to check that they know what they have signed.
Have you seen my post about building on the plotlands (last October)?

Hi Jan Sorry to hear about your fish. When I was a child (in Doreset) I used to keep rabbits. One morning I found one of the rabbits with the head removed and the blood sucked out. Local people said that it was the trademark of a stoat or a weasel. I've never seen a one here in the village but many years ago whilst walking my dog in Church Road a long red/brown creature ran across the road in front of me. I don't know which one it was but it must have been either a stoat or a weasel. Could they possibly have moved this far up into the village? Someone told me that the rabbits seen on the RSPB site last year have now been seen on the other side of London Road so perhaps not impossible for other creatures to do the same.

One hour spent writing a letter of objection could save up to 9 years of building and traffic delays (imagine Sadler's Farm in the middle of the village!)
